Charges Filed in Bois D’Arc Domestic Violence Incident

February 22, 2021 By kwto

A man is facing a number of charges following Thursday’s domestic violence incident that the suspect shot in the chest and an elderly woman hospitalized with serious injuries.

The Greene County Prosecutor’s Office has filed multiple counts against 33-year-old Steven Burgess. Burgess has been charged with two counts of first degree domestic assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action.

On Thursday afternoon, Burgess attacked an 82-year-old woman inside a home on West Farm Road 124. The elderly woman suffered significant facial injuries from the attack. While that attack was happening, the suspect’s wife took their minor children and fled to a vehicle outside.

The suspect them came out of the house with a rifle and approached the woman and children, so she pulled out a handgun and shot him in the chest, stopping the attack.

Burgess reportedly told investigators that he was so drunk he doesn’t remember anything about the incident.

Both Burgess and the elderly victim are still hospitalized because of their wounds. Burgess is being held without bond, and will be taken to the Greene County Jail upon release from the hospital.
