If you’re looking for a way to help the homeless residents of the Ozarks, perhaps volunteering at a cold weather shelter is for you.
Springfield’s emergency cold weather shelters open for the season on November 1 and will be available in emergency conditions through March 31.
The men’s shelter located at East Sunshine Church of Christ is in need of at least eight more male volunteers to help with operation of the shelter. Many of the shelter’s previous volunteers were older who have relatives they need to care for during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Volunteers will arrive around 7:30 p.m. to check in those staying in the shelter, can sleep part of the night, and then help men in the morning as they prepare to leave.
Anyone who can help out is asked to contact East Sunshine Church of Christ at 889-5455.
The women’s cold weather shelter, at Grace United Methodist Church, is also in need of volunteers.
