Missouri State University, noting how they and the city of Springfield are “inexorably tied together,” announced their 2020 Government Excellence Award will go to Springfield Mayor Ken McClure.
MSU called McClure a “strong leader for the community” as well as an advocate for the University. The University cited McClure’s work during the COVID-19 pandemic in establishing a masking mandate, occupancy and other restrictions, and maintaining policies that fight the spread of COVID-19.
“Mayor McClure has demonstrated extraordinary achievement through his career as a public servant,” Missouri State President Clif Smart said in a statement. “He has provided unwavering support for Missouri State University. And since March he has provided an unprecedented level of leadership to protect our community and slow the spread of COVID-19.”
MSU also mentioned McClure’s work with the IDEA Commons, Grant Avenue Parkway Project, and other community developments in their award announcement.
