A group of citizens outraged over two Amish brothers who sexually assaulted an underage girl receiving a suspended prison term and probation are holding a protest to demand the resignation of the Webster County Prosecutor.
The Facebook group, We Demand Ben Berkstressers’ Resignation, has gained over 1,800 in 10 days. The group has scheduled a protest at the Webster County Courthouse in Marshfield on Saturday, October 3, at 10 a.m..
Other newly organized groups, including Child Advocacy Against Pedophilia (CAAP), are joining the call for Berkstresser to resign or be removed as prosecutor.
The calls for Berkstresser’s removal intensified after he filed a motion last week to have the probation for brothers Aaron and Petie Schwartz revoked after he men had contact with the underage girl they assaulted after returning to their Amish community.
The protest organizers have shared on social media the potential revocation isn’t enough to stop their calls for Berkstresser’s resignation because they feel the victim should never have been put in a place where her attackers could have access to her.
The hearing regarding the revocation of the Schwartz’s probation is scheduled for October 6.
