The Christmas lights are shining on the Springfield square.
The City of Springfield and downtown merchants turned on their Christmas lights Saturday as part of the city’s “Mayor’s Tree Lighting Holiday Show.”
The city and Mayor McClure aired a show on KY3 Saturday night in place of the normal ceremony because the live ceremony on Park Central Square had to be canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The city installed a 35-foot Norway Spruce along with additional light displays on Park Central Square. The city encourages residents to drive through the square in the evenings to enjoy the display.
The show featured performances by members of OPAL, the Ozarks Performing Arts League, although live performances on the Square by several local marching and school bands had to be canceled because of rain.
