Kevin…
They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That goes for just about any type of art. Recently an art piece went on exhibit in Miami by a famous Italian artist and it was one of those things that make you say, huh? It was a banana taped to a wall with duct tape. Yep, that’s it. They actually put that on display and it caused quite a stir and went viral. That was a few months ago. The banana, of course, went bad.
You would have thought that would have been the end of the project, but no. The artist just taped another banana on a wall and then it went up for auction by the famous auction house, Sotheby’s Fine Art. Here’s the kicker…they expected it to go for over a million dollars. Say What??? That’s right. In Austin Powers speak “One Meeelion dollars”.
Naturally, that banana would quickly go bad too. So what they were really actioning off was a certificate saying you had the authority to replace the original banana and the duct tape any time, and you could still call it an original work by the famous Italian artist. Are you keeping up with this?
Here’s the real kicker. It sold for 6.2 Million dollars. Somebody actually paid that for this oddity. I’m no financial genius but, man that doesn’t seem advisable. Sometimes I wonder if the whole worlds gone nuts. On the bright side, if you aspire to being an artist. Don’t let anybody tell you you cant do it. Just tape something to a wall and put it out to the world and see what happens.
