Kiss Me I’m Irish…

Well, a little bit Irish, but aren’t we all on St. Patty’s Day.

Kevin…

Back in the mid to late 90’s I enjoyed riding in Jay Nicholson’s big green convertible Cadillac at the front of the Springfield St. Patrick’s Day Parade. (R.I.P. Jay). Man, it was a good time. The boys from Culley’s Pub were running out pitchers of green beer and everybody was having a great time. Maybe a little too good of a time, if there is such a thing. I think it’s definitely the best parade of the year. I’m glad to see it back.

St. Patrick’s day is fun because there are so many ways to celebrate. With or without the green beer. For instance, I like a good corned beef and cabbage. It’s not for everybody, but if it’s cooked right…Mmm Mmm. Actually, it’s not a traditional Irish dish. It was invented right here in the U.S.A.

You can find a four leaf clover for good luck.

Listen to some Irish music like U2, the Cranberries or Van Morrison. Then there’s the real stuff like the Chieftains, the Clancy Brothers or the Dubliners.

Get some Irish Potatoes for the kids. They love them. They’re not potatoes at all, but candy made with cream cheese, coconut and covered with cinnamon. Yum!

However you plan to celebrate, make sure you wear green so you don’t get pinched and maybe you’ll even catch a real live leprechaun like my kids did one year. He might lead you to the pot of gold.

Have a great St. Patrick’s Day and may the luck of the Irish be with you.
