Zimmer Communications to Merge With Mid-West Family

What we know: Zimmer Communications will be combining with Mid-West Family. The merger plans to create one of the strongest locally-owned multimedia organizations in the region.

What it means: Pending the FCC’s approval, Zimmer will begin running the four Mid-West Family radio stations: 104.7 The Cave, 105.1 The Bull, 102.1 The Won, and Q92.9, along with the Around the Ozarks multimedia brand.

What’s Next: Once FCC approves the merger, Zimmer Communications will manage nine heritage radio stations, along with a full digital marketing staff.

Mid-West Family and Zimmer Communications will be combining forces, creating one of Missouri’s strongest locally-owned multimedia organization in the region. Pending the Federal Communications Commission’s approval, the company will be ran by Zimmer Communications.

“This is an exciting opportunity to bring together two organizations that share the same values and a deep commitment to local broadcasting,” said John Zimmer, Zimmer Communications.

Zimmer Communications currently owns and operates KTXR (98.7 The Dove), KWTO-AM (960-AM, 93.3 FM News/Talk), KWTO-FM (101.3 Real Country), KZMO (93.7 The Stage), and KBFL (1060-AM, 96.9 -FM The Jock).

Mid-West Family, owners of KKLH (104.7 The Cave), KOMG (105.1 The Bull), KOSP (102.1 The Won), and KQRA (Q92.9 Springfields Rock Station ), along with the Around the Ozarks multimedia brand.

Upon approval, Zimmer Communications will manage nine heritage radio stations, significantly expanding its ability to provide local news, entertainment, digital marketing, and advertising solutions across southwest Missouri.

The combination brings together two respected, locally focused organizations with decades of experience serving listeners, businesses, and communities throughout the Ozarks. By joining forces, the companies will be better positioned to invest in local programming, innovative marketing solutions, and the talented employees who have helped build each organization’s reputation.

“After more than 35 years of ownership in the Springfield market, partnering with another legendary Missouri ownership group to create the next chapter of local media service to our communities is incredibly exciting,” said Mike Paterson. “As the local radio and media landscape continues to evolve, bringing these two organizations together creates even greater opportunities for our advertising partners, our communities, and especially our employees who have helped make both companies successful.”

Both companies will continue to operate independently until the transaction receives approval from the Federal Communications Commission. Approval is anticipated before the end of 2026.
